Each time we go to Paris (view our photo gallery) we try to visit my favorite museum in the whole world: Musée d’Orsay. Being my favorite may have to do with the work of three in particular artist’s that are located here; Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas and Claude Monet. I especially have a deep appreciation and love for Impressionism art. This movement and time period for me just simply calms and softens the world when viewing paintings.
The Musée d’Orsay Building
Musée d’Orsay is a masterpiece architecturally in itself too. Situated on the left side of the Seine river in Paris. It is located in the former Gare d’Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built in 1898. Hence, the impressive dome-like tunnel through the center with galleries to view located on both sides. Equally, the museum is very well organized which I believe is conducive to learning and understanding the wonderful art that is present. If you plan on going, the lines cans be very long and for this reason I highly suggest you purchase your tickets in advance.
The Amazing Art
The Musée d’Orsay houses paintings, sculptures, photography and furniture. At the present time, there are over for 480 Impressionism artworks with 100 pieces that are noted truly masterpieces. There are over 1,000 post-Impressionist paintings, the largest collection in the world. For this reason, I am another very happy and grateful visitor. No doubt, the entire day can be spent going in and out of the different galleries. If you need to take a break, there is a restaurant to eat and review all that you have already admired. For this reason, do not rush, instead plan at least half a day there. After all not only will you will be enjoying wonderful and amazing artwork that you have seen in books your entire life…but now it’s right in front of you!
